Nueva York

The past couple of days have been pretty awesome. Nate got off work early on Friday and I don't remember what we did that night, but Saturday we started moving our things over to our new apartment around noon. It took us four trips (all day) to get all of our things over there and up the five flights of stairs. Easier said than done! to say the least. We decided we aren't ever doing that again. We'll get a Uhaul and pay people, but we'll always remember it. Our bed was delivered that afternoon and so we got to sleep in the apartment on Saturday night. We were so dang excited for our new bed!! It was like heaven after the rocks we've been sleeping on. We took a trip to K-Mart last night which was an experience in and of itself that will never be forgotten. The subways are always weird on the weekends so Nate just decided to walk to where he knew how to get around. So we carried our bags and broom through time square to get to Grand Central. Holy cow. We were so disgustingly sweaty. We looked like bums! I swear. But we decided that if anyone tried to mess with us we had a shower rod and a broom and we could take them out. Not what you expect to see in Time Square. But we must have hiked half of Manhattan yesterday and climbed a million stairs. By the time we got home last night we were bushed. But thank goodness we had a bed! So we woke up this morning for church and our superintendent came over to start cleaning and painting for us. The apartment was pretty dirty before, but it looked fabulous when we got home this afternoon. It just smelt like fumes. (Bad idea to take a nap in it...I got a major headache) Our super's name is Alerio. He's so nice, and he had fun speaking to Nate in Spanish. It's good for Nate to brush up on his Espanol. After church we were starving and we haven 't really gone grocery shopping yet since we've still been in transition, so we decided to go to Olive Garden in Time Square. We didn't realize it until we were eating but our stomach's have shrunk because we haven't been eating as much. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs. We both got the never ending pasta bowls which we weren't able to finish, but we got seconds just so we could take them home. Our waiter was awesome! He was a member of the church. The first thing that he said to us was, "So what ward are you guys in?" Nate was a dead give away because he was carrying his scriptures. He said only Mormons have bibles that big! But he was great and it was fun to get to know another member and see what their life style and background is. Needless to stay we were full the rest of the day and we were grateful to have Grant as our server. We came home and took another nap until our new friends that we made at church today called. We went with them to the Bishop's house for ice cream sundaes. A bunch of the new ward members were invited to get to know one another. We had a blast and made friends with a lot of great people. We especially clicked with two of the couples and we look forward to spending time with them. We're really thankful to make friends here and know that we are all in the same boat and same stages of life. The ward is great and I'm sure they'll put us to work really soon. As our schedules get busier and life gets going it will be nice to know we have the love and support of the ward and our families. Nueva York as Todd calls it is going to be great for us...now we just need some furniture! Each day here is a new adventure seriously. Every time we go out we go somewhere new. Oh I remember what we did on Friday. After Nate got off work we went to the West Side and found the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre that I hope to take dance classes from! It was so much fun to be in the studio and see the dancers. It's an African American Modern Dance Company and they are absolutely beautiful dancers. I really want to see them perform while we are here, and as soon as I get a pay check I'm buying a punch card and taking class. After we found the studio we went on a walk by the Hudson River. It's nice to be to go to the Pier and the parks and relax! We'll be taking pics of our new place soon!
